Bungeoppang

붕어빵
Bung-eo-ppang

Fish-shaped red-bean pastry, winter street

About the dish

Bungeoppang is a snack of batter and sweet red bean paste baked in a fish-shaped mold. Half the fun is the endless debate over whether to start from the head or the tail, and it remains the defining street treat of the Korean winter.

Key ingredient

Wheat flour (milgaru) — an energy source rich in carbohydrates and plant protein (gluten), with B vitamins and dietary fiber; the foundation of noodles, dumplings, savory pancakes and more. Early-summer harvest, grown nationwide.

Ingredients

Main: flour batter, red bean paste · Seasoning: sugar, baking powder

Simple recipe

  1. Make a thin flour batter.
  2. Pour the batter into the fish-shaped mold.
  3. Add the red bean paste and cover it with more batter.
  4. Close the mold and bake both sides.
  5. Cook until golden and serve.
