About the dish

Haemul jjim braises an abundance of seafood with soybean sprouts and minari in a fiery seasoning. Piled high and boldly spiced, it is a feast-day favorite that brings the delicacies of the sea to one platter.

Key ingredient

Seafood (haemul) — shrimp, squid and clams together are rich in taurine and amino acids; lean, high-protein and clean-tasting, with minerals that restore vitality. Good year-round, mainly from Korea's coastal waters.

Ingredients

Main: squid, shrimp, mideodeok (small sea squirts), soybean sprouts, minari, scallion · Seasoning: gochugaru, gochujang, minced garlic, starch slurry

Simple recipe

  1. Clean the shrimp, clams, squid and mideodeok.
  2. Prepare the soybean sprouts and minari.
  3. Simmer in a seasoning of gochugaru and minced garlic.
  4. Add the seafood and sprouts and cook through.
  5. Thicken with starch slurry, toss and serve.
