Saewoo Bokkeumbap

새우볶음밥
Sae-woo Bok-keum-bap

Shrimp fried rice, wok-tossed

About the dish

Saewoo bokkeumbap tosses shrimp and vegetables through hot rice until every fluffy grain takes on the shrimp's savory depth. Simple to make and quietly satisfying, it is a one-bowl meal loved by young and old alike.

Key ingredient

Shrimp (saeu) — long known as a stamina food that builds energy and strengthens the kidneys; its glycine settles the mind, so a shrimp supper is even said to help you sleep soundly. In season in September, mainly from the West Sea.

Ingredients

Main: rice, shrimp, onion, carrot, scallion, egg, peas · Seasoning: cooking oil, oyster sauce, salt, pepper

Simple recipe

  1. Clean and prepare the shrimp.
  2. Stir-fry the vegetables in a pan.
  3. Add the rice and shrimp and stir-fry over high heat.
  4. Season with soy sauce and salt.
  5. Stir in the egg and scallion and fry until the grains are light and separate.
